In this article we aim to analyze the representations produced by the Piauí press during the 1964 coup and the installation of the dictatorial regime. Specifically, we analyzed how the newspapers represented the post-coup repression in the state of Piauí. In addition, we investigated the “social place” of the Piauí newspapers analyzed in order to understand which social groups make up the news and what interests they defend. The hemerographic sources used were: O Dia and Estado do Piauí. The methodology used was hemerographic, bibliographic, qualitative and empirical. The guiding question of the research was: how did the Piauí newspapers represent the 1964 coup to their readers? The main authors used were: Certeau (1998), Castro (2022), Oliveira (2008), Fico (2014), Reis Filho (2000).
