Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic strikingly shows the convergence between ideological interests of broad evangelical sectors and the neoliberal coalition led by the Bolsonaro government. What are the foundations of this affinity, we ask ourselves. In a context of anti-science political mobilization, our hypothesis is that the critique of scientific reason, marked by the hegemony of magical thinking (direct link between desire and reality) and the post-truth situation (negation of the truth verification criteria) and false statements) allowed this affinity. Based on qualitative methods of sociological analysis, the reflections of classics (Weber, Durkheim, Marx, Manheim, Foucault) and positions and posts of two northeastern evangelical state deputies in social networks.
