Abstract

This article brings to the reflection the concept of civil religion adopted by Rousseau in the Social Contract and the idea of ??order that pervades his works, more specifically the idea of ??social order, since, due to the need for delimitation, it becomes impossible to enter into the themes of natural order and moral order. We will analyze the function of civil religion in Rousseau's political thought in order to demonstrate how its use can contribute to the maintenance of order within society. In a quick and general way, I will approach the question of religion in the Genevan thought, so that this discussion serves as an introduction to the reflection on civil religion and its relation to politics and social order.
