: This article analyzes the “point of view” in Afro-Brazilian literature, based on the studies of Eduardo de Assis Duarte (2005, 2013, 2014, 2020), the article aims to discuss the “point of view” of the black man people the subject of his writing, which thus constitutes a counter-narrative that is legitimized in the individual and collective history of the black population in Brazil. Methodologically, specialized research is based on bibliographic productions by Afro-Brazilian theorists like Eduardo de Assis Duarte (2005, 2013, 2014, 2020), Conceição Evaristo (2005, 2011) and Cuti (2010, 2011), also going through the literary works of four important precursors of Afro-Brazilian literature in a time frame from the 19th century until the first decades of the 20th century. We conclude at the end of the article that in the face of the “internal narration” of the Afro-Brazilian subject, black characters are constructed out of stereotypes and stigmas arising from the process of enslavement.
