Abstract

This article seeks to analyze the project of the Museum of Origins by Mário Pedrosa, as a solution to the fire suffered by the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro, in 1978. The Museum of Origins, therefore, not only met the new demands generated by the artistic circuit of the end of the 20th century, but also created other questions, by placing in the same scenario, on an equal footing, productions from different origins. Mário Pedrosa was one of the first authors to produce a critique of colonial domination in the political, economic and artistic spheres, significant for the foundation of his autonomous thinking and distant from the hegemonic centers of power.

Author Biographies

Ana Cecília Araújo Soares de Souza, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG)

Ana Cecília Araújo Soares de Souza is PhD from the Postgraduate Program in Arts (PPGArtes) at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) (2023), in the research line: Visual Arts. Master of Arts from the Postgraduate Program in Arts at the Federal University of Ceará (2015). Specialist in Communication and Image Theories (2007), from the Federal University of Ceará. She has a degree in Social Communication - Advertising (2005) and  Journalism (2008) from the University of Fortaleza. Integrates the Network of Researchers at the Salvador Allende Solidarity Museum, in Santiago, Chile. She is a member of the Brazilian Association of Art Critics (ABCA). He was part of the 32nd and 33rd editions of the Critics Group of the Centro Cultural São Paulo's Exhibition Program. She is one of the creators of the magazine and publisher Reticências. She is one of the organizers of the books "The Silence of Things: Herbert Rolim" and "We are the ones who were - Coletivo Aparecidos Políticos / 10 Years". She is a member of the Literature and Dictatorships Study Group, linked to the Postgraduate Studies Program in Literature and Literary Criticism at PUC-SP. Has experience in art history and criticism; curation; cultural journalism; communication and education.

Yacy-Ara Froner, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG)

Yacy-Ara Froner. Titular Professor at the Department of Plastic Arts at the School of Fine Arts at UFMG and permanent professor at the Graduate Programs in Arts and in Built Environment and Sustainable Heritage at UFMG. CAPES Senior Internship at ICCROM (2015-2016); PhD in Economic History from USP (2001); Master in Social History from USP (1996). She is currently a PQ-Level 2 researcher and a CNPq Senior Post-Doctoral fellow at the Collaborating Researcher Program of the Department of History of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the University of São Paulo. PQ-CNPq Scholarship.
