INDEXAR, a way of accessing knowledge

Abstract

INDEXAR – Directory of Digital Resources aims to facilitate the discovery and access to digital resources by the teaching and research community. It presents itself as a service that provides online a list of repositories and scientific journals in the field of science and culture. Each resource gathers specific meta information, which allows users to locate or identify scientific information in their areas of interest. INDEXAR intends to be the authoritative source of information on national repositories and journals and ensure, as interoperable as possible, their presence in international directories. The governance model adopted at INDEXAR, which includes specialists by field of activity, ensures that the submission of new registrations goes through a careful evaluation process that guarantees not only the quality and adequacy of the information, but also its degree of completeness. This article aims to present a new service that is characterized by being a tool that highly promotes access to knowledge in ​​science and culture areas. The article also describes the context that led to its management model, funding, eligibility criteria and main services.
