Abstract

The realization of computerization, through library management software, compatible with the needs of the means and ends services of the Library System of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, came from planning (management 1993-1998). It was included in the modernization plan for this set of libraries, in order to guarantee the satisfaction of the University Community, in view of its final objectives. The aim was to improve facilitating mechanisms between knowledge/information producers and researchers. After analysis, it was decided to acquire the Aleph software, hardware and network resources, through financial support from FINEP - Financier of Studies and Projects, from FNDCT - National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development. Other important actions were made possible through the University’s own budget.
