Journal History

The Journal Education in Question, a journal of the Education Center and the Graduate Program in Education of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, was created in a plenary meeting of professors from the Department of Education, held on April 18, 1986. On August 28, 1987, the printed version was launched in a solemn session, when the Master in Education, installed in 1978, celebrated its ninth anniversary, with areas of concentration in Pre-School and Educational Technology. With a backdrop of an academic policy of expansion of Graduate Studies in Education (with its master's and doctorate levels) and of the dissemination of a systematized scientific knowledge through the interlocution of mastery of interdisciplinary repertoires, those professors spared no effort to materialize the editorial project of the Journal Education in Question, replacing the Education Bulletin created in 1981, but whose circulation was basically restricted to federal universities in the Northeast Region. In 1987, there were twenty-three (23) Education journals edited by universities, of which ten (10) were from universities in the Southeast Region; 7 (seven) from universities in the South Region; four (4) from universities in the Northeast Region and two (2) from universities in the Midwest Region. Among the major national events, the Journal Education in Question witnessed the installation of the Constituent Assembly (February 1987), the promulgation of the Federal Constitution (October 5, 1988), the movement around “Education in Constituent Assembly”, the first discussions of the Ten-Year Plan of Education for All (1990) and, furthermore, the enactment of the Law of Guidelines and Bases of the National Education (Law No. 9,394, of December 20, 1996). At twenty-seven years old, the Journal Education in Question has gone through several institutional changes. On February 15, 2006, in a plenary meeting of professors from the Department of Education, its electronic version was officially launched, universally, bringing professors and researchers closer together in a growing stream of academic and scientific interactions in a continuum of permanence and hybrid mutations. In the course of thirty-seven years of uninterrupted circulation, it has improved its graphic quality, the editorial management, the indexing in national and international databases, in addition to open access and continuous flow, publishing four annual editions of unpublished original articles and reviews in the field of Education, being classified in Qualis/CAPES as A1. The continuous publication of the four editions of Journal Education in Question is made possible by UFRN’s Electronic Portal, with the updated version of Open Journal Systems (OJS 3.3.0.10).
