Counselor Aires and the problem of the book format in Machado de Assis - a digital humanities project

Abstract

The project "Counselor Aires and the problem of the book format in Machado de Assis" includes, on one side, four digital editions of Machado de Assis two last novels, Esau and Jacob and Counselor Aires Memorial, two genetic editions and two critical ones. On the other side, along with the editions, the site of the project will include some essays, that try to articulate the  materiality of the witnesses of such texts with issues demanded by Machado de Assis poetics. In this text, I will present the actual state of the project, focusing on the answer given to dematerialization problems that arise from the medium where the project takes place.
