Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The original and unpublished article (Portuguese, Spanish and English), between 20 and 25 pages. The book review, of 3 (three) to 4 (four) pages.
  • The article, in accordance with what is prescribed by these General Rules, is configured for A4 paper, observing the following indications: typing in Word for Windows; right / top / bottom margin 2.5 cm; left margin 2.5 cm; font type Century Gothic, font size 12 for body, with spacing between lines of 1.5 cm.
  • The mentioning of authors in the text shall abide by the ABNT Technical Standards – NBR 10520, August 2002.
  • The full name(s) of the author(s), academic title(s), work institution, city and country, e-mail and orcid should be sent separately, submitted to the Journal's Portal (in Submit a New File, according to the Tutorial).
  • The title should contain a maximum of 150 (one hundred and fifty) characters with space. Abstract in
    Portuguese, Spanish and English of around 15 (fifteen) lines or 150 (one hundred and fifty) words, with the indication of 4 (four) keywords in each language.

Author Guidelines

1. The Journal Education in Question is a periodical of the Education Center and of the Graduate Program in Education of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). It is a continuous flow and open access online journal, published in four annual editions with original and unpublished articles related to Education Area (area of knowledge delimited by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel – CAPES), resulting from scientific research, in addition to book reviews.

2. The article, in accordance with what is prescribed by theseGeneralRules, is configured for A4 paper, observing the following indications: typing in Word for Windows; right / top / bottom margin 2.5 cm; left margin 2.5 cm; font type Century Gothic, font size 12 for body, with spacing between lines of 1.5 cm. In quotations (with more than four lines), the spacing is simple and the font size for body is 11.

3. The original and unpublished article (Portuguese, English and Spanish),between20 and 25 pages, must include an abstract in Portuguese, Spanish and English of around 15 (fifteen) lines or 150 (one hundred and fifty) words, with the indication of 4 (four) keywords in each language; the spacing between lines is 1.5 cm and the font size for body, 12.

4. The period to submit the article to the Journal Education in Questionis from March 1st to October 1st.

5. Theoriginaland unpublished article approved may be published, simultaneously, in Portuguese, in English and/or in Spanish.

6. The author of the article approved in English must then send the version in Portuguese and or Spanish, in addition to the name of the translator and his or her e-mail address, which will appear at the end of the article.

7. Atthebeginning of the approved article, the title (bold and lowercase) will appear in Portuguese, English and Spanish, before each abstract.

8. The full name(s) of the author(s), academic title(s), workinstitution, city and country, e-mail and orcid should be sentseparately, submitted to the Journal's Portal (in Submit a New File, according to the Tutorial).

9. Thetitleshould contain a maximum of 150 (one hundred and fifty) characters with space.

10. The quotation, above four lines, must be indented andfollowedby the surname of the author(s), year and page.

11. In the references, register only the authors cited in the article and write the full name of the authors and of the translators.

12. The notes must be only explanatory in nature and appear at the end of the text, before the references. Each explanatory note shall contain a maximum of 400 (four hundred) characters.

13. The images and pictures in the article must be of high resolution.

14. In the article, the tables and graphics must appear in font 11,single spaced, the base must be blank, the title at the top and in lower case, the subheadings and other entries in lowercase, and there must be an indication of the source of the source of the research.

15. Each article may be up to 3 (there) authors, preferablybelonging to research groups. At least two (2) authors must holda doctor’s degree. It is recommended that one (1) of these, with the same title, comes from a university institution in another country.

16. The article, resulting from a master's thesis and from adoctoral dissertation, may have a maximum of 2 (two) authors.

17. Theevaluationof the article by the referees/reviewers shall take into consideration on the consistency of the title (with respect to the knowledge produced); on the consistency of the abstract (necessarily presenting the purpose, theoretical framework to the methodological procedure to the results); on the internal consistency of the article (in relation to the purpose, to the theoretical framework, to the methodological procedure and the results); on the quality of the educational knowledge produced (in relation to the analytical density, to the pieces of evidence or proofs of the statements presented and to the conclusive-analytical ideas); on the quality of the educational knowledge produced (in relation to the structuring and articulation of the parts of the article); on the pertinence of the conclusion of the article (with respect to the purpose and to the theoretical framework and/or methodological procedure and the conclusive-analytical ideas); on the relevance of textual argumentation and coherence; on up-to-date bibliography concerning the article; on the adequacy of the writing to the standard Portuguese language; on the academic and scientific relevance (with respect to the standards of a scientific research) and on the originality of the article for the Education field.

18. The article’s evaluation of the double-blind type will becarried out by 2 (two) reviewers. In the event of conflictingopinions, other opinions will be requested. Articles not approved by reviewers will be archived in Archived Submissions of UFRN’s Electronic Journals Portal (https://periodicos.ufrn.br/educacaoemquestao/index).

19. The book review, of 3 (three) to 4 (four) pages, shall includethe title (bold and lowercase) in Portuguese, English and Spanishand the reference of the reviewed book.

20. Eachreviewmay have a maximum of 3 (three) authors.

21. The evaluation of the book review by the reviewer/refereetakes into consideration its informative, critical and critical-nformative clarity; the presentation of the knowledge produced for the field of Education; the consistency in the synthetic exposition of the reviewed book knowledge; the adequacy of the writing to standard Portuguese language and, also, to the Rules of the Journal Education in Question.

22. The book review’s evaluation of the double-blind type will becarriedout by 1 (one) reviewers.

23. The article and the book review submitted to the JournalEducation in Question shall first be analyzed by the EditorialBoard, which analyzes their adequacy to the Journal’s Rules and Editorial Policy (including originality and the novelty of the article) and decides whether to send it to reviewers to evaluation of blind type or to opt for a prior refusal. All stages of the process of submission and evaluation of the article and the book review are supervised by the Journal’s Editorial and Advisory Board, which makes decisions in cases that diverge from the Journal’s Rules.

24. The novelty of the article and the review will be analyzedbasedon an antiplagiarism tool (CopySpider).

25. All opinions issued by the evaluators shall be analyzed by the Editorial and Advisory Board of the Journal Education in Question, which immediately informs the author(s).

26. The estimated time for submitting opinions to the author(s) is approximately 35 (thirty-five) days.

27. In the article and book review, submitted to the JournalEducation in Question, the author(s) may follow all stages: immediate acceptance or rejection; forwarding to reviewers/referees; opinions issued and sent to their authors, in addition to the publication on the website of UFRN’s Electronic Journals Portal (https://periodicos.ufrn.br/educacaoemquestao).

28. The Journal Education in Question respects ethical conduct and the policy of good academic and scientific practices in the publication of articles and documents, namely: i) The Code of Conduct for Publishers and Journals of the Cope (https://publicationethics.org/resources/code-conduct); ii) The Basic Guidelines for Integrity in the Scientific Activity of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development – CNPq, 2011 (https://www.gov.br/cnpq/pt-br/composicao/comissao-de-integridade/diretrizes); iii) E-books the texts and discussions published by the National Association of Graduate Studies and Research in Education – Anped – on Ethics in Research, both in practical procedures and in their fundamentals and implications (https://www.anped.org.br/site/etica-na-pesquisa); iv) The Resolution of the National Health Council n. 510, of April 7th, 2016 – provides for rules applicable to research in Human and Social Sciences – (https://conselho.saude.gov.br/resolucoes/2016/Reso510.pdf) ; v) The Research Evaluation Statement – DORA (https://sfdora.org/read/pt-br) and vi) The accessibility standards for digital documents of the “Zila Mamede” Central Library’s Accessibility Laboratory (http://lacessibilidade.bczm.ufrn.br).

29. The Journal Education in Question shall retain the copyright in all articles that it publishes. The Journal Education in Question uses theCreativeCommonsAttribution-NonCommercial0InternationalLicense, which provides for the sharing of the article with acknowledgement of the authorship.

30. The authors and co-authors of articles and book reviews,publishedin the Journal Education in Question, shall wait for at least 1 (one) year before they are allowed to submit new works for publication.

31. Theprocedurefor article and book review submission in the Portal of the Journal Educação em Questão (https://periodicos.ufrn.br/educacaoemquestao) – in Access (top right side) – must follow all guidelines of the Tutorial in the Portal (Article and Book Review submission).

32. The mentioning of authors in the text shall abide by the ABNTTechnical Standards – NBR 10520(second edition) of July 19, 2023. Examples: Teixeira (1952,  70); (Teixeira, 1952) and (Teixeira, 1952, p. 7).

33. The references, at the end of the text, must abide by theABNT Technical Standards, NBR 6023, November 14th, 2018 (second edition).
