Viusual images have occupied the most varied spaces in the present time, to the point that we can say that 21st century is theirs. They have dominated social, cultural and educational relationships. My research on history textbooks has revealed a considerable increase in them throughout the pages of history txtbooks. Thus, I discuss how the teaching of Brazilian history – responsible for the construction of national memory is being configured in its txtbooks and how the great events of the History of Brazil and their respective “heroes” immortalized through visual images are used to create myths in the social imagination suchs as statues placed in public squares that serve as a imagery reference of a period or event in which they become a kind of topoi.
