The objective of this work is to present the use of metadiscursive constructions in the process of elaborating narratives affiliated with the legendary Amazon. Such constructions reside in operations through which the narrator/textual producer frequently inserts, in his speech, verbal forms and orational sequences that refer to another narrator/speaker, from which the narrative activity also implements. Therefore, as a textualization resource for the aforementioned narratives, this type of construction presents itself as a strategy of “reaffirming” what is already said, in a given sociodiscursive context, in relation to stories by Boto, Cobra, Matinta Perera and Curupira. The aforementioned constructions are also forms used by the writer (producer) to implement the thematic progression of the text. In the textual-narrative perspective itself, it is configured as a device used by the narrator to dynamize and give more consistency to the topic under elaboration. Thus, in the interplay of the narrative activity, there is an interpellation of speeches or sayings that come to constitute the narrative process itself, with a recurring shift to facts, situations and events that are placed as new in the referential structure. The Corpus under analysis consists of seventeen narratives referring to the entities Boto, Cobra, Matinta Perera and Curupira. I take as a theoretical reference the postulations of Jacqueline Authier (1981), Ingedore Grunfeld Villaça Koch (2004), Edviges Maria Morato (2005), Ingedore Grunfeld Villaça Koch and Vanda Maria Elias (2010), Clélia Spinardi Jubran (2005) and Heliud Luis Maia Moura (2013), for whom metadiscursivity resides in the capacity of the text producer to have more “access” to what he says, being able to manipulate it more effectively and consciously. With regard to referential processes, metadiscursive procedures serve to indicate how the textual speaker “visualizes” the referents generated within the discourse, taking a position on how he himself participates in the interactional activity.
