This work pays tribute to the theoretical legacy of Mônica Magalhães Cavalcante, highlighting the rich interface between brazilian text linguistics and the theory of argumentation in discourse (TAD), proposed by Ruth Amossy (2018). Based on Cavalcante et al. (2020, 2022), it is argued that the text, understood as a contextualized and negotiated unit of meaning, inherently possesses argumentativity as a core component. This argumentativity manifests in the argumentative orientation of every text, resulting from linguistic choices and textualization strategies. This article is divided into three parts: the first justifies the relevance of TAD in dialogue with Textual Linguistics; the second revisits the theoretical and methodological advances that emerge from this interface; and the third section explores contemporary challenges, especially considering the transformations brought about by technodiscursivity (Paveau, 2017; Martins, 2024). Argumentation is treated as a discursive-textual phenomenon, where the text constitutes the privileged space for the expression of argumentative intentions and the negotiation of meanings.
