IN THE ANGOLAN LITERATURE CLASS

Abstract

This study presents a literary reading mediation experience conducted within the subject of Angolan Literature II, involving students from the Portuguese Language Teaching course at the Ekuikui II Higher Institute in Huambo. The proposal was based on the short story Voices in the Sanzala (Kahitu) by Uanhenga Xitu and addressed the challenges of working with literary texts in higher education contexts in Angola. Grounded in action research and structured through a literary didactic sequence, the intervention aimed to promote critical reading, enhance orality, and strengthen cultural identity through contemporary Angolan literature. Theoretical support came from authors such as Geraldi, Cosson, Solé, Paulo Freire, Riolfi, and scholars of Bantu oral tradition. The results indicate that critical mediation of reading fosters the formation of reflective and conscious readers, contributing to the humanization of literature teaching in the Angolan context.
