Experience of professionals in the face of the health complications of children attended in rehabilitation clinic

Abstract

Objective: The present study aimed to describe the experience of professionals facing health complications that affect children with disabilities working in a rehabilitation clinic. Methodology: This is a cross-sectional study, qualitative in nature, about the experiences of professionals facing the health problems of children in a rehabilitation clinic. This research was carried out through interviews which occurred in two moments. The first, with questions allusive to the sociodemographic/educational data of the collaborators and the second with questions related to the needs experienced by the professionals facing the children's clinical emergencies. Results: Eighteen professionals participated in the study. Most of them had contact with the first aid discipline during undergraduate studies, but the preparation received to act in emergency situations is limited. Not all collaborators are trained in the health area, which limits their understanding of the procedures or protocols for emergency situations. The importance of knowledge in emergency actions and the need for more emphasis on the assistance to the seizure victim is emphasized, considering the severity of the situation and the hesitation presented by health professionals. Among the interviewees, it was observed that many of them do not have scientific knowledge regarding seizures, however, they routinely live with children who present recurrent seizures. Conclusion: It is important to have a deeper knowledge of the collaborators at the study site, regarding the urgency/emergency situations that affect this public.
