This article aims to investigate how the "new" poetry slams and the saraus empower marginal/peripheral literature, literary production and "extraliterary" (NASCIMENTO, 2009) coming from the Brazilian peripheries that emerges with this label, in the mid-2000s, with the publication of three acts of the magazine Caros Amigos. The magazine, entitled Caros Amigos Literatura/Marginal: a cultura da periferia, was idealized by the writer Ferréz and brought together several writers, activists, peripheral artists, especially in the city of São Paulo. The hypothesis raised in the text is that the "new" saraus, an expression used by Lucía Tennina (2017), and the poetry slams potentiate marginal/peripheral literature, because they corroborate the collective logic that it evokes since its inception and strengthen other dimensions of literature associated with the signs of orality and performance, in addition to the citizen dimension and an articulation with social movements such as hip-hop.
