This article aims to trace and analyze meanings about the Brazilian North region, in order to make accessible the understanding of how such networks of sayings work and how they affect meanings and subjects circulating in society. Guided by the theoretical and methodological references of Discourse Analysis, especially by the principles and procedures that resize the very notion of language, subject and history, we aim to look into a heterogeneous and intersecting corpus in the humorous and political fields, constituted by the media. The object of our research consists of the discursive materiality manifested in a mass media outlet, the G1, based on the discursive event enunciated in the form of a joke by Paulo Vieira, a comedian from Tocantins, on December 25, 2022, at the Best of the Year, broadcast by Rede Globo, on the program Domingão com Huck. Faced with this discursive path, we will enable the mapping and tracking of one of the various networks of sayings about the North and in particular about the Tocantins subject and how such meanings demarcate/erase identity traits while determining, in their continuous functioning, the image of the humorist as one of its many marketable by-products.
