Abstract

The dossier that we put in your hands, Current Perspectives on the History of Education in Uruguay, organised within the framework of the Uruguayan Society for the History of Education (SUHE), makes available a series of diverse articles on the history of education that meet some of the following characteristics or approaches and/or relationships between them: a. Transnational dialogues that attempt to go beyond the exclusively national perspective and show the mechanisms of circulation of ideas, people and/or material objects, as well as the actions of institutions and the configuration of networks of transnational scope. In this sense, the emphasis is placed on scales of analysis that are not limited to Uruguay and that are sensitive to the understanding of complex dynamics of circulation, appropriation and local re-appropriation of education; b. Affective turn and school aesthetics. To some extent, some of the articles address the so-called "affective turn" in studies of the history of education and place emotions, feelings, aesthetics, education of the body and sensibilities in education as objects of study; c. Gender, sexualities or intersectional studies. In this line, articles are presented that to some extent address the history of education with a gender perspective, by thinking about the construction of sexual difference in the educational sphere. On the other hand, they address in different ways the links between sexuality and education, masculinities, femininities and sexualities in education, and the intersection of different markers of difference (gender, socio-economic level, age, race/ethnicity, disability, sexual diversity, among others), among the most relevant aspects.
