This article aims to present the Weberian sociological concept of charism, and the sociology identified with it, starting from the formulations of the German sociologist, as part of the dossier proposal (discussing the presence of "classics" in "contemporaries"). highlighting the main unfolding of the sociological formulation of the term - charism as a belief in an exceptionality that engenders a social relation, which constitutes itself as a domination -, we complement the analysis of the use of the concept with findings of a research with the denominated "New Communities" within the charismatic Catholicism, in order to demonstrate the perennial relevance of the charism as a sociological category for the understanding of different symbolic orders.
