Abstract

The environmental problem represents one of the great modern world concerns, especially regarding climate change, that has led different nations to co-opt efforts in order to mitigate its advance. This article focuses on analyzing global climate governance to understand how the countries of the Global South, especially Brazil, are represented in the international scenario. In this sense, the general objective of the work is to understand how these countries contribute to the proposition and creation of agreements aimed to combat climate change. The research technique used in the present work was bibliographic and the study will be developed from the inductive methodology, through a qualitative approach of bibliography and documentary reviews. Thus, this work aims to schematize the most essential ideas proposed by developing countries, with a focus on the introduction of the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities. In addition, it also sought to analyze the main Brazilian environmental policies in Lula and Bolsonaro governments. Finally, in the context of the debate on climate governance, this work is relevant because it discusses the participation of the Global South in this scenario. As a result, possible contributions to the effective leadership of the Global South on climate matters are listed.
