The Base Nacional Comum Curricular (BRAZIL, 2018), whose final version was published in 2018, recognizes the Digital Information and Communication Technologies as an impactful reality in the teaching and learning processes, as pointed out by the fifth general competence that provides for understanding, the use of digital technologies of information and communication in a critical, meaningful, reflective, and ethical way in language practices, including those that take place at school. The BNCC also recognizes, in general competence number seven, that argumentation is an important teaching and learning object, since it promotes the formulation, negotiation, and defense of ideas and points of view, which favors decision-making in various social spaces. It is understood that, for this reason, the new multimodal and argumentative genres in circulation are directly cited in the Base (such as podcasts, social advertising, advergames etc.), but there is a lack of studies aimed at the description and linguistic analysis of their constitutive aspects. This lack instigated us to propose the development of a qualitative research, at the doctoral level, focused on the characterization of the argumentative multimodal digital genre advergame. We intend to analyze and describe some of the semiotic and linguistic processes in the field of multimodal argumentation, starting from the observation of this genre in use, using the theoretical bases of practical argumentation (GONÇALVES-SEGUNDO, 2020), the Rhetoric of Visual Argumentation (KJELDSEN, 2015, 2018) and the Grammar of Visual Design (KRESS; VAN LEEUWEN, 2006). The cut made for this article brings some initial analyses made from the advergame Cooking Mama, The Unauthorized PETA Edition: Mama Kills Animals. Thus, it is expected to contribute to the linguistic understanding of the constitutive aspects of this genre and to the generation of subsidies to compose pedagogical practices aligned to contemporary challenges.
