Among the social norms that we need to conform to in order to be recognized as subjects, we can highlight the cisheteronorm, which is responsible for the exclusion of bodies that do not fit the sex designated by medical-scientific discourse (Vergueiro, 2016). In other words, subjects who vehemently disagree with this norm are victims of a series of acts of violence (Autor, 2019). An example of this is the episode in which, on International Women's Day, federal deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL) put on a wig and satirized the existence of trans women, which generated discussions inside and outside the virtual environment. Thus, this study aims to analyze the scalar processes projected in comment practices on the YouTube platform, in response to the parliamentarian's speech. To this end, we conducted an online “scalar ethnography” (Carr; Lampert, 2016), considering that this methodology encompasses the analysis of how users position themselves on social networks. Regarding the theoretical contribution, theories related to language such as performance (Butler, 2015), cisheteronorm (Rosa, 2020), marginalization of trans bodies (Autor, 2019), speech acts (Austin [1962] 1990) and their contributions to the maintenance of oppression and alarming growth of data on violence committed against trans people in Brazil were mobilized. The comments analyzed allowed an interpretation of transphobic violence through language and how it plays a significant role, capable of reproducing inequalities and perpetuating stigmas. Thus, given the data analyzed, this work highlights how violence against trans people occurs on digital platforms.
