Retextualization is seen as a great tool to work with discourse genres, as it is the production of a new text from one or more base text(s). In order to improve the discussions about this theme, this article seeks to investigate how the comprehension factor is presented in the textual production process of a resume written by a pair of university students, based on the essay by Toledo (1994). Therefore, we analyze the text from a procedural look, that is, from its genesis. We are theoretically based on Flower and Hayes (1981), Prado (2019), Bakhtin (1997), Marcuschi (2010), Matencio (2002), Dell’Isola (2007), Machado (2010), Paviani (2010) and Koch and Travaglia (2015). Data analysis evidenced that comprehension is a fundamental factor in the retextualization process, being one of its basic characteristics so that the process is not considered mechanical.
