Neoliberalism vs. Human Rights Theory
a reflection on the purpose of education and equal access

In the current object of study, a review of the scientific article was carried out: Neo-liberalism, Human Capital Theory and the Right to Education: economic interpretation of the purpose of education, published in 2024, by the author Obinna Christian Edeji. The article, published in Social Sciences & Humanities Open, a renowned journal in the Scopus database, was originally published in English. The original article aimed to discuss the topic of access to education, as a construct, in light of the right to human dignity and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. For the author, the purposes of education, teaching and human development are more important than just training and generating skills in students to supply the job market. Access to the scientific article is free. And it's worth reading! Therefore, it generates in readers a reflection on the role of the State in public education and private educational opportunities, based on a deregulated market. The main philosophical line of the reviewed work is the premise that education should not be seen as an economic good and focused on productivity. Rather, as an ongoing state obligation to promote human dignity.
