Usability of Public Domain digital library

Abstract

This paper presents as a theme the usability on the Public Domain Digital Library website. The present theme brings a reflection on the relevance of access and use of information available on the Library website through the application of criteria for analyzing the usability of this information, since identifying possible errors in the searched interface and suggesting improvements may favor the availability of the information collection Public Domain, whose relevance is to the history of civilization, as well as contributing to the encouragement of reading and learning, enabling democratic access to information. Therefore, the objective of this study is to analyze the Public Domain Digital Library in view of the processes and usability criteria. And for that, it uses as methodology an application of processes and usability criteria, such as Checklist and Recommendation Guide that subsidize the application of heuristic methods of analysis based on degrees of severity of the problems found. The results found indicate that the website has positive and negative aspects regarding the ergonomics and usability of the space. In this way, 16 usability problems were identified, being 4 (four) of high priority; 6 (six) medium priority and 6 (six) low priority correction problems. It concludes that, it is important that the website corrects the flaws found and seeks to improve more and more its products and services, in order to allow a plural and flexible access to the whole community.
