Abstract

The incorporation of the theme of patient safety at technical, undergraduate and postgraduate levels is encouraged in national and international contexts. In this scenario, safety incidents involving drugs deserve attention. The objective of this study is to report the experience of implementing effective and safe medication practices at the Escola Multicampi de Ciências Médicas. To this end, the itinerary for implementing curricular activities aimed at mobilizing and articulating knowledge, skills and attitudes inherent to effective and safe medication practices in the context of this educational institution was presented in a descriptive, chronological and critical-reflexive manner. The curricular activities implemented include the dimensions of teaching, research and extension, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, which allows, as a whole, the qualification of their curricular matrices in alignment with what is recommended at national and international levels, particularly, regarding the reduction of safety incidents involving drugs. This also reverberates in the reorientation of the health service’s work processes. Although there is alignment and coherence with guidelines from international organizations, what guides the change processes is training in health services, with the intrinsic relationship with professionals and users and the improvement of care offered to people and centered on people as a non-negotiable horizon.
