This work analyzes issues related to literacy and literacy development from a neuroscience perspective. The study sought to overcome the deficit in reading and writing acquisition in a class of thirteen sixth-grade students at a rural school in Currais Novos, Rio Grande do Norte. To achieve this, an innovative methodology was used developed within the "Literacy + Neuroscience in Comprehensive Education" graduate program. This methodology proposes playful and engaging strategies for reading comprehension and writing, using portfolios. For the initial analysis, reading and writing pretests were administered to better understand the students' linguistic abilities. Based on the results, the "Magic of Knowledge" project was created, which used teaching materials developed from the training received, which was developed in an Experimental Laboratory and then implemented in the classroom for the study reported here. After implementing the project and its interventions, posttests were administered to assess whether the objectives had been achieved. The results of the post-tests demonstrated significant progress in reading, writing and reading comprehension among students, culminating in 100% passing the class at the end of the school year.
