Abstract

Providing healthcare to people deprived of liberty requires specific and ongoing professional training to acquire and hone skills for working with vulnerable populations. The objective of this study was to conduct an integrative literature review on educational strategies applied to healthcare delivery for people deprived of liberty. To this end, the descriptors "education," "prisons," and "health care" were applied to the Scopus, Science Direct, NCBI (via PubMed), and Google Scholar databases, with no time restriction, to answer the research question "What educational strategies are applied to healthcare delivery for people deprived of liberty in the context of health education?" A scarcity of studies on the topic was identified both during the integrative review and during the non-systematized literature survey to establish the theoretical framework and discuss the results. The integrative review selected six articles, all published since the 21st century. These articles covered undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education programs for professional training and health education for people deprived of liberty. Strengthening research on this topic in the context of health education is urgent and fundamental, in order to promote curricular implementation and the development of public policies that support the remodeling of professional training and work processes in the health service.
