ABSTRACT
This article proposes a discussion on plural and interactive literacy as an essential pathway to forming a critical and engaged society of readers. It begins with a critical analysis of Brazil's National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) approach, which often disregards the material and social conditions of Brazilian schools by predominantly focusing on formal aspects of literacy the material and social conditions of Brazilian schools. It argues that literacy is a multidimensional and interconnected process, where various linguistic facets operate in an integrated manner – including phonological, morphological, lexical, semantic, syntactic, pragmatic, and textual dimensions. It also highlights the neglect of the graphic dimension, which, according to neuroscience, requires fundamental "neuronal recycling" for written word recognition. Through an academically humanized perspective, the text explores findings from the neuroscience of reading, such as neuroplasticity and parallel meaning processing, and psycholinguistics, which reinforce the need for interactive pedagogical practices. It concludes that Paulo Freire's generative words methodology, by connecting learning to students' realities (the Habermasian "lifeworld"), offers a powerful path towards literacy that not only decodes but empowers, fostering informed, autonomous readers capable of forming their own conclusions.
