Introduction of the study of the federal constitution in Brazilian basic education.

Abstract

Senate Bill No. 70 of 2015, authored by Senator Romário de Souza Faria, proposes amending Law No. 9,394 of December 20, 1996, which establishes the guidelines and bases of national education, with the aim of introducing the study of the Federal Constitution within the school environment through the teaching of Constitutional Law. This aims to promote the dissemination of fundamental values ​​related to social interest, the rights and duties of citizens, and the democratic order, as well as institutionalizing, even in compulsory primary education, the understanding of ethical and civic values ​​upon which Brazilian society is based, since the primary purpose of this education is the basic formation of the citizen. Thus, the teaching of Constitutional Law in schools will be a relevant tool for evolution in all social branches, since education, as a process of socialization, will integrate the school environment with the social environment, in such a way that, through the constitutional knowledge that will be disseminated, there will be progress in relation to the formation of Brazilian citizens, which will generate as a natural consequence the conscious participation of the national people in matters related to citizenship and the exercise of fundamental freedoms and guarantees ensured in the Federal Constitution, in addition to making the country evolve in the most diverse sectors and segments.
